About Our Senior Care Community
A Tradition of Care
At the age of 19, Brigid Teresa McCrory left her family in Ireland to become a Little Sister of the Poor. In 1926, she was assigned to a home for the aged in New York and felt the European customs did not meet the needs of the American elderly.
Her efforts at change were not accepted by her Congregation so she sought advice of Cardinal Patrick Hayes—envisioning an alternative care for the aged.
After much prayer and with the blessing of the Cardinal, Sr. Angeline and six other Sisters left their community to establish a new congregation which became known as the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm. When established in 1929, The Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm was the first American Community of religious women founded solely to care for the aged.
The Carmelite Sisters have provided over 65 years of spiritually motivated care for the elderly of Columbus. The Villas at St. Therese was established in 1998. Construction of our new 147-bed facility began several years ago and was completed in 2005. Mother Angeline McCrory Manor was named in honor of the Foundress of the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm.
“I thank God for each one of you.”
